Children feel better when they eat well!

Children feel better when they eat well, at Humberstone Day Nursery we will offer a variety of foods with nutritional value in a calm environment.

Our menus are carefully thought out with the consultation of our parents and discussions about the food children enjoy, we work on a three-week rota so that children have a good variety of different foods, tastes and flavours.

All our meals are freshly prepared daily on site by Mandie, our qualified chef of many years. With their small tummies but high energy and nutritional needs, food will be served at regular meal and snack times.

Humberstone Day Nursery

Children will be encouraged to try new foods and flavours but not pressured with eating, children and staff will eat together at the table, which helps create a calm and sociable environment for eating.

Sugar and acid in food and drinks will be kept to a minimum, limiting the quantity and frequent consumption of these products can reduce the risk of tooth decay. Children will be offered water and milk throughout the day, Milk provides calcium and vitamin D to build strong bones.

Our setting is regularly inspected by the Food Standards Agency and we have received 5 star ratings since being established in 2004.

Meatless Monday!

We operate ‘Meatless Monday’– this is an International Campaign to encourage people to not eat meat for one day a week to improve on health, animals and our planet.

Special Diets

Menus are prepared for those children with specific dietary requirements and allergies, careful consideration is taken in the preparation and serving of these foods to ensure cross-contamination does not occur.

Baby Menus

We fully support breastfeeding mothers and will always work with you to ensure the best possible care for your child. When our babies are first exploring new foods and textures, we will prepare healthy fresh foods each day including a wide range of vegetable and fruit purees. If a child is in need of formula milk we have facilities for the safe preparation of this.

Teeth Cleaning

We participate in a campaign that aims to improve the oral health of young children and reduce tooth decay; children are encouraged to clean their teeth at least once during their session at the Nursery, toothpaste and toothbrushes are provided by the Nursery, and toothbrush racks are provided to avoid cross-contamination.

I have brought my little girl here since she was 8 months old due to going back to work. As a first-time parent returning to work, I felt very anxious about leaving my child. When we came to have a look around I instantly felt a homely feel from the nursery, which made me feel at ease.All of the staff were friendly and the rooms had a variety of lovely activities going on. My little girl has absolutely thrived being here, she is very happy to go in and puts her arms straight out to the staff member collecting and she has done that from very early on which is very reassuring when I’m off to work.We often get paintings and artwork sent home which is lovely to see.I’m very pleased with my choice of place and feel at ease going to work knowing she is enjoying herself and in good care.

Humberstone Day Nursery is an amazing place for children to learn and grow. My daughter and son both attend the nursery and always come home after always having fun-filled days full of education/stimulating activities, tasty nutritional food and with such friendly, caring, and passionate staff. Both of my children have attended this nursery and one of them still does. The staff are so caring and attentive and the children talk about them so fondly at home. My little girl went to school 2 years ago and still talks about her nursery teachers, the food and often says she wishes she still went there because it was so much fun.
