Learning through play!

Parents are a child’s first educator, prior to a child joining Humberstone Day Nursery we will collate as much information from the parents about their child on an “All About Me” booklet, this information allows us to make connections between nursery and home experience.

Our daily routine enables children to play uninterrupted. We recognise the importance of extending and enhancing our children’s learning and development through real experiences, this is achieved in our holistic indoor and outdoor environments.

Whether you live in the city or in the countryside, the nursery has an outdoor habitat that provides the children with an opportunity to learn. Our outdoor play area meets the needs of different learners in different ways.

It offers a large scale of multisensory experiences, which help the children remember and recall their learning. We know that being outside improves mental health and children’s wellbeing. Our play-based approach provides the children uninterrupted time to explore the environment, making choices whilst being supported by their practitioners, who encourage scaffold learning.

Tapestry

Throughout a child’s time at Humberstone Day Nursery we celebrate each child’s unique journey through their own online Tapestry journal. Our online journals keep records of observations, achievements, accomplishments and assessments. Parents can access this and make their own contributions to their child’s journal by sharing achievements and experiences their child has had away from the setting.

In the moment planning

“In the moment planning” encourages our practitioners to plan around children’s interests, creating a curriculum where practitioners can support, guide and teach children new skills and ideas.

Early Years Foundation Stage

At Humberstone Day Nursery we follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, which is a mandatory document for all early years providers. The EYFS sets the standards for Learning, Development and Care for children from Birth to Five Years by the Department for Education.

The Learning and Developmental standards are divided into seven Areas of Learning. These include Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

I have brought my little girl here since she was 8 months old due to going back to work. As a first-time parent returning to work, I felt very anxious about leaving my child. When we came to have a look around I instantly felt a homely feel from the nursery, which made me feel at ease.All of the staff were friendly and the rooms had a variety of lovely activities going on. My little girl has absolutely thrived being here, she is very happy to go in and puts her arms straight out to the staff member collecting and she has done that from very early on which is very reassuring when I’m off to work.We often get paintings and artwork sent home which is lovely to see.I’m very pleased with my choice of place and feel at ease going to work knowing she is enjoying herself and in good care.

Humberstone Day Nursery is an amazing place for children to learn and grow. My daughter and son both attend the nursery and always come home after always having fun-filled days full of education/stimulating activities, tasty nutritional food and with such friendly, caring, and passionate staff. Humberstone Day Nursery has such a homely feel to it and you don’t ever feel just like a number. The staff really get to know all parents individually and you know that they have the childrens’ best interests and wellbeing at heart. Both of my children have attended this nursery and one of them still does. The staff are so caring and attentive and the children talk about them so fondly at home. My little girl went to school 2 years ago and still talks about her nursery teachers, the food and often says she wishes she still went there because it was so much fun. We consider ourselves so lucky to have found Humberstone Day Nursery, especially during the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19. Despite having very limited contact with other people, our daughter settled in really well. It is so great to check in on the app to see all of the lovely things that she has been up to and how much she has been enjoying herself. The staff are all really friendly and approachable, leaving us both at ease when we drop her off in the morning. Her key person has also been really supportive with her development and we continue to be blown away by her new independence!
